Week 1 of The Adobe Youth Voices Project was a big success on all counts. The girls created a Value Tree and then participated in a photo scavenger hunt. For details, see class notes at the Buen Pastor Adobe Youth Voices website.

A big thanks to Betty Londergan for highlighting The Adobe Youth Voices Project on her popular and postive blog, WhatGives365! Betty spreads hope and incentive by highlighting an inspirational project everyday for one year. She roots for the Underdog and brings attention to folks quietly doing great things. What’s more, she donates $100 of her own money towards the good work she highlights daily. Read her post on The Adobe Youth Voices Project here: Every Picture Tells a Story. On Thursdays, the girls have singing practice. They're preparing for their presentation a week from Friday when we all come to celebrate Santa Maria Eufraisa, the founder of Buen Pastor. It's so fun to watch them. Their practice is a mix of singing, jumping, zumba, hugging, running, and overall infectious enthusiasm! Adobe Youth Voices joins eStudio473 this week to deepen the girls' exploration in multimedia storytelling. One of our volunteer educators, Rebeca Beeman, has created a video and a blog to kick things off. The video introduces AYV at Buen Pastor and the blog will provide ongoing commentary on the girls' progress. Adobe Youth Voices joins eStudio 473 to foster cutting edge digital storytelling to the girls at Buen Pastor. The project begins when the girls get back from Spring Break and finishes the end of May. Every week will build on the last. We will be introducing the girls to photography, story telling, production, video, audio and helping them build a multimedia project with their newly acquired skills. Read more about our first session here. At the moment, the three facilitators, Rebeca, Juanita and Katie, are all learning the ways of working mixed media magic with Adobe Premier Elements. After learning these techniques and establishing a curriculum, they will work with the willing participants of eStudio 473 to produce Buen Pastor's own mixed media story! We hope to share our final product with our community and possibly other cities across the globe. We've put together a donation list. Feel free to contribute!
Over the past 10 weeks, the secundarias have been taking a Visual Journaling Workshop. Under the guidance of Katie Clancy of eStudio 473, they have learned about basic elements of design, drawing techniques and are currently diving into color theory. Every session begins with an exploration of memories, dreams, love, respect, and important relationships through writing exercises. To inspire their work, the girls have studied influential artists such as Dan Eldon, Lynda Barry, Robert Frank and Peter Shank. In the coming weeks, the girls will start the second workshop, Retratos: Identidad y Relaciones. They'll develop both self portraits and portraits of the important female figures in their lives as they study the work of Joseph Cornell, Chuck Close and Ida Applebroog. Using the techniques inspired by one or more of these artists, they will create a group project as well their own individual works of art. The end goal is to exhibit the girls final projects. We're all looking forward to the art the girls will produce. |
