Over the past 10 weeks, the secundarias have been taking a Visual Journaling Workshop. Under the guidance of Katie Clancy of eStudio 473, they have learned about basic elements of design, drawing techniques and are currently diving into color theory. Every session begins with an exploration of memories, dreams, love, respect, and important relationships through writing exercises. To inspire their work, the girls have studied influential artists such as Dan Eldon, Lynda Barry, Robert Frank and Peter Shank. In the coming weeks, the girls will start the second workshop, Retratos: Identidad y Relaciones. They'll develop both self portraits and portraits of the important female figures in their lives as they study the work of Joseph Cornell, Chuck Close and Ida Applebroog. Using the techniques inspired by one or more of these artists, they will create a group project as well their own individual works of art. The end goal is to exhibit the girls final projects. We're all looking forward to the art the girls will produce.
